Mindo is one of the best places in South America for birding and nature. Located north-west of the province of Pichincha, just 79 km. from Quito. It is one of the richest areas of the planet with respect to the concentration of species of birds.
The lodge has eight cottages built from local materials in the region and equipped with private bathroom, kitchen, dining room and hot water. All cabins are near the Mindo River and have excellent views of the garden and surrounding forest.
The restaurant is noted for its gourmet delights. All food is homemade, from the magnificent breakfast with breads and desserts, to the exclusive Ecuadorian dishes.
El Monte offers you some of the best birdwatching and hiking opportunities in the world.
El Monte visitors can choose from a variety of things to do. You may decide to go on a nature walk where your guide will point out many species of plants, including many with medicinal properties, and help you spot birds and other wildlife.
Another option is to visit a waterfall, where if you choose you can jump from a 33ft (10m) cliff beside the falls. Even if you decide not to take the leap you and simply enjoy swimming beneath the waterfall in the refreshing waters of the Nambillo river.
